Eligibility Criteria

Access to La Cocina’s Program will be limited to a few qualified businesses who meet our selection criteria (below) and our program capacity. We prioritize low-income immigrant and women of color.




To qualify:

The business in question must have fewer than 6 employees and no more than $35,000 worth of assets.

The owner’s household income must be low or very low by HUD standards.

In addition the following are important considerations: the applicant’s professional experience, their entrepreneurial spirit, the amount of time they have been planning or operating their business, their openness to learning new skills and to making the necessary changes for their business to succeed, and their ability to work collaboratively in a busy environment.

Commercial Kitchen Rental
To help support our programs, La Cocina also rents commercial kitchen space to businesses who do not qualify for our incubator program (commercial kitchen rental).

Application to La Cocina’s Program:
Those interested in applying to La Cocina’s program must:

Attend one of La Cocina’s monthly orientations.
Fill out an application form (available at the orientation) and provide all of the information requested, such as: business plan, cash flow projections, resume and proof of income.
If invited, attend a personal interview with La Cocina staff. For those not qualified La Cocina will make an effort to provide referrals to other organization for further training.
Provide product samples or sample menu items for concept.
