Feature on Chaac Mool

SF Examiner October 30, 2011 — Chaac Mool joined La Cocina’s food incubator program in 2008, and has been serving delicious and authentic Mayan cuisine from the Yucatan ever since. This husband and wife team, Luis and Maria Vázquez, began serving food out of their home in 2005, but now operate from their food truck in Dolores Park six days a week. They also provide private catering services to citizens around the Bay Area. Since joining La Cocina in 2008, Chaac Mool has become an integral part of La Cocina’s gatherings and events. In honor of El Día de Los Muertos, Luis and Maria held a Pan de Muerto cooking class at the La Cocina kitchen. “Pan de Muerto is a Spanish tradition that carried over to Mexico,” Luis says, and the bread is made on El Día de Los Muertos as an offering to a family’s ancestors.
