It seems like just yesterday we were basking in the warmth of San Francisco’s Indian Summer, so the fact that we’re already half-way through November is kicking us into holiday gear. Before the hectic holidays set in, we want to make sure you have low-stress options for finding the perfect gifts for everyone on your list this year. Our gift baskets are beloved by coworkers, bosses, aunts, in-laws, friends, and pretty much anyone else who appreciates great food — and now you can buy them on our website or at our Ferry Building kiosk.
November 19th: Clairesquares returns to Williams-Sonoma’s Artisan Marketplace
If you miss Claire on Thursday, the weekend will give you another chance to try her newest goods. Williams-Sonoma’s monthly Artisan Marketplace will feature her incredible brandy butter and plum pudding (and is the perfect opportunity stock up on both for the holidays, as we can’t imagine a better hostess gift). Head down to the Union Square location between noon-4PM to check out Claire, and other local artisan producers, for free!
November 26th: Maite Catering Empanada Class at Macy’s
Need something fun for your visiting family, post-turkey? We’ve got a perfect solution: Constanza Ortiz will be hosting a cooking class at Macy’s where you can learn how to transform your Thanksgiving leftovers into extraordinary empanadas. The class with Maite Catering’s owner will ensure you won’t fall into the trap of turkey sandwich overload, and at just $20 a ticket, you can bring the whole clan.
November 28th: 18 Reasons’ Sweets Tasting – Chocolate Blitz
18 Reasons is bringing in some of their favorite chocolatiers in the Bay, and of course, some La Cocina folks made the cut. Stop by from 6-8PM to satisfy your sweet tooth. Tickets are $10 members/$15 everyone else, and you’ll get a port pairing plus 10% off chocolates at Bi-Rite, making getting the perfect holiday gift a little easier.
December 9th: La Cocina’s 3rd Annual Gift Bazaar
If you’ve missed out on our last two bazaars, you’ll want to go ahead and mark your calendar because we know you’ll regret not making it to the Mission Cultural Center for this one. From 5-9PM, we’ll be running the first ever tamale alley, a silent auction full of one-of-a-kind experiences (private hog butchering class at the Fatted Calf or craft making with Aida Mollencamp, anyone?), and giving you access to all of your favorite La Cocina purveyors. Entry is free, so you’ll want to stop in, grab a drink, and see how many people you can cross off your gift list.
December 14th: La Tamalada (the ultimate tamale-making experience)
We think access to three of the Bay Area’s best tamale makers is pretty close to priceless, so we’re pretty thrilled that Alicia (of Tamales los Mayas), Maria (Estrellita’s Snacks), and Isabel (El Buen Comer) are joining forces for one epic class. The trifecta will teach you how to make tamales from scratch, over drinks and dinner; you’ll leave with a bag of tamales to share with loved ones plus the know-how on throwing your own tamale-making party. Tickets are $65 and benefit La Cocina, where the class will be held (6:30-9 PM).
December 17th: Alicia’s Tamales Los Mayas Class at Macy’s
We know not everyone will be able to make La Tamalada, but don’t want you to despair: Alicia will also be teaching the art of the tamale on Saturday at 2PM at Macy’s Union Square. Tamales Los Mayas is known for making tamales stuffed with love, so you’ll learn how to put the magic in your next batch from Alicia herself. Sound like the perfect break from shopping? we think so! Tickets are $20.
